LEXINGTON, Ky. — Last week the Rotary Club of Lexington hosted its first virtual meeting featuring Lexington-Fayette County Health Department director of communications, Kevin Hall. The virtual meeting was held in lieu of the club’s regular lunch gathering which is held on Thursdays at The Red Mile.

Thanks to technology and dedicated club members, this opportunity allowed Rotarians and the community to attend from the comfort and safety of their homes and will continue to occur until restrictions are lifted and regular operations can resume.

“Perhaps now more than ever before, it’s imperative for our community and our world to stay connected and vigilant,” said Rotary’s executive director Peggy Trafton. “Maintaining our routines in creative ways during times of crisis such as this, gives us hope, a spirit of togetherness, and the solace that we will get through this together.”

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the Rotary Club of Lexington has taken precautionary measures to address concerns about the spread of COVID-19. The club’s top priority is to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of its members, program participants, guests, and the greater Bluegrass community. The club continues to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic closely, ensuring full compliance with all CDC, state, and local requirements and recommendations.

“Rotary’s motto is ‘Service Above Self’ and the Rotary Club of Lexington is committed to supporting our partner charities and the communities here at home and abroad just as we have for more than a century,” said Rotary Club president Gerald Marvel. “The coming weeks and months will be a true test of our humanity and I am confident we will rise to the challenge and do what is right for the greater good of all people.”
